Movie Review: Klaus

Hey there!

I actually watched Klaus last year and I’m still stunned by how utterly amazing this movie is!! I couldn’t write a proper review because it was pretty hard to put what I thought and felt about this movie in words. I don’t even know if this is a proper review but I just want to talk about this movie.

Plot:

After proving himself to be the worst student at the academy, a postman is sent to a frozen town in the North where he discovers a reclusive toymaker named Klaus and befriends him.

The movie serves as an alternate origin story of Santa Claus independent from the historical Saint Nicholas of Myra with a 19th century setting.

My Thoughts:

Okay first off, the animation! I could go on and on about the quality of the animation. And I don’t the high or low quality but how beautiful the animation is! It gave me a familiar feeling as though I’ve seen this type of animation before, which I didn’t. The animation felt like a combination of Disney/Pixar and FOX animations. I don’t know if that makes sense but that’s what it made me feel.

And the plot? Oh my God! I don’t want to out up any spoilers so I won’t talk much. But the plot is wholesome! Like, the movie defines wholesome! The story of this movie was so beautiful and heart warming, it made me cry. Whenever I remember it or even think about it, I get emotional. The movie is not sad, it’s just that beautiful. It’s been one whole year since I watched it and I still couldn’t get over it.

I’m sad and pretty disappointed that this movie didn’t reach the top. It’s not so well known. I got to know about this movie after stumbling across an Instagram post about underrated movies. It’s truly underrated, even though it’s on Netflix. I assume everything on there gets mainstreamed. But I also feel like this movie didn’t get its fair share of appreciation. I’m not just talking about the quality but also about the story and the message it gave. It did get some awards like. But had lost to Toy Story 4 in the Academy Awards for the Best Animated Feature, even though it had a unique style.

Oh besides, the soundtrack is beautiful and truly suitable

I know this is a short review. Just want to let everyone know how much I love this movie and how much it means to me.
